making pickups

is it hard? anybody done it? im thinking of rewinding my jag HH's pups. id like to have one magnet be alnico 5 and the other alnico 2, for splitting purposes as well as to eliminate phase cancellations. i just read about a guy who wound a pickup with a hand drill affixiated to a table, which seems pretty genius.... anyway. im gonna email fender and see what magnets are in there.

A friend of mine attempted this. It's fairly straightforward, but a tad complicated and requires careful winding. Said friend attempted a single coil, and had the stupid thing almost completed when one of the miniscule lead wires snapped off inside the wrapping, effectively ruining it. He later succeeded in making a smaller-sized pickup for an electric dulcimer, but that's another story.

If you need more info I can probably find some...

nah it would cost me too much to make a decent quality pickup. assuming the first 3 arent quite right anyway. ill just buy them.

whers the link? and i think on my first attempt ill just rewind my #### fender humbucker, if i #### it up ill just throw it out, it would improve my jag if anything. i wont bother with counting or anything, ill just do what the original pafs were: wound till they were full. although how do i get the cover off of the fenders? i think the use unleaded solder to get them on, and my iron wont heat it up enough.... i broke the neck pickup trying to get the cover off. (when i replaced it with a dimarzio)
