mustang comparisons

sorry im new, well the first guitar i ever wanted was a fender mustang and finally i can afford one. im thinking of a Japanese competiton racing stripe, or an american reissue, ive heard bad things about the japanese mustangs but is the sound really that noticeable? well which would you recommend?

oh and i play(punk, ska, grunge, noise, and surf)

First off, welcome to the site, and there's no need to apologise for being new 😛

Now, about the Mustangs; there are no American re-issues. All new Mustangs that you'll find will be from Japan. But this is no bad thing! the Japanese Mustangs are an absolute delight to play!

You can't buy new comp stripe Mustangs anymore either (unless you import one from Japan). If you want one then you'll have to look second hand. The only new Mustangs available are the '65 RIs, which are available in olympic white, dakota red and daphine blue.

ebay would be your best bet for a stang with a comp stripe, well i guess ebay would be your best bet for anything unless you want a NEW 65 RI.

cool thanks for the welcome, oh yeah my friend imports guitars so finding one isn't the problem, but i was wondering if there is a difference in quality from the 65 or the competition one ?

no, in fact i think the 69 comp ri are better, cuz they are lighter, and have contours

I heard the quality of 65 RI(the ones being made right now) is better than 69s. Cant tell for sure, never seen a 69 RI in person.

i think grunge fan has it backwards as well, but i ####in' love my 69 RI. never played a 65 though. but i think the 69 is a great guitar

idk about everyone else but the 65 makes me feel like damn hunchback, and the 69 is the lightest guitar ive played, but for all i know i could have a numb backbone hahA

Acutaly non-countered body is one of the reasons i bought mine 😁 I know, im weird. Btw, is 69 made out of basswood aswell?

the forearm contour doesnt do much for me just cuz my guitar is kinda low, but i really like the belly contour, thats the main thing i dont like about my JS

well, my first guitar was a classical acoustic, then my first "real" electric guitar was a epiphone les-paul copycat, so i guess i'm used to the right angles between guitar's surfaces and I hecka miss them when i play countered bodies 😆 I mean, guitar bodies.

I love the way the '69 RI plays. The body is so comfortable. I havn't tried the '65 though to compare them...

oh, and the bodies of the '69 RI are made of basswood.
