JS Build (Fran spec.)

Tired of gimmicks and meaningless switching options that i will never use. I just want a nice playing guitar with 3 tonal options (Jazzy 3-way), i bought a JS sp cheap for the project, so to make it look right i have to fit switches or i will have stupid holes. I may just cut a new sp eventually.

The next project will be totally aimed at tone. I'm going for a wrapover bridge and minimum routes and minimum controls. Pretty much along the same principle as LP Juniors.

what wraparound are you looking at?

The PRS type so the strings stay low to the body. I have a BC Rich Warlock with a budget wrapover and the action was so high i had to shim the neck.

by prs type do you mean the actual prs bridge (tonepros)? also, you could use toneprose posts with any wraparound.

Do they use tone pros? The ones on the SE and Tremonti models.

No, i had a budget limit and i've already gone past it. Paint and lacquer is quite pricey, so i just looked for a decent piece of mahogany to finish naturally.

I used danish oil and bri wax.

I intend to paint the next project when i get round to starting it.

Damn another already? I wish I had the energy, or motivation to finish this one, I've had it for damn near a year now.

coulda stained it, y'know. Wouldnt have looked to bad.

Looks awesome though. I'd throw a black pickguard on therrrr, but thats me.

Hmm I'd put a brown/red tort on it.

So... i got bored with the natural finish already. On Fenders it seems incomplete to me. I managed to pick up a red tort sp so i'm thinking of the black body red tort combo like my Jagmaster.

Started priming, i'm using a primer/filler that will hopefully get me decent results.

Conclusion:

I enjoyed this build and am happy with results. I've learnt stuff and gained confidence along the way. My only gripe is the limited UK availability of parts and materials and the prices of them.

The most tedious part of the project was the painting. It is'nt immaculate... but passable.

3-way toggle switch replacing Mustang slider switches (but switches still installed due to pre cut scratchplate).

Sounds;

Quite surprisingly bright considering the mahogany body, but in a positive way. The humbucker sounds great especially with some tone rolled off.

gonna play it on stage? then people can point and say ooo look a custom jaguar.

the finish looks just fine in the pics, i personally i might have picked a different pickguard (although black and red are a favorite combo of mine) and it is a nice finish on the guard.

gonna put a trem arm in it?

I shall try it at rehearsal and if it holds up well then live yes, no to the trem at this point.

i remember you mentioning a wraparound for a future projest. in both of my tune-o-matic guitars, the bushing for the bridge is EXACTLY the same as the bushing for the tailpiece. so you could just throw one on there, and have the trem be cosmetic.

However, the only thing i'd change on that would be the pickup switches for black ones!

not taking anything away as that has come out beautifully.
