I was at Real Guitars in Melbourne the other day (anyone else in Melb SHOULD know Real Guitars) and they had 3 Mustangs hanging on their wall. This is significant because these are the first Mustangs I have EVER seen in person; can't find them in Melbourne.
Anyway, I saw the prices on them, which ranged from AUD$775 to AUD$875. Eager to make conversation with the gruff man I was dealing with, I said "I didn't realise Mustangs were so cheap!". I considered $775 to be a good price for a Mustang, am I right?
Anyway, the guy, with a perfectly even voice, simply said "made in Japan, mate". I don't know if he meant it as a bad thing, or merely as a way of saying that they aren't American Fenders.
I guess what I am asking is... Is AUD$775 a good price for a CIJ Mustang, presumably used, but in very good condition? And why would the guy have reason to be negative about Japanese Fenders, as I have only ever heard good things about them?
By the way, I'm afraid I can't accept "he doesn't know what he's talking about" as an answer. Real Guitars is a legendary store in Melbourne. Every time I have had a problem with a guitar that someone at a store cannot solve, the advice has always been "call Real Guitars". Of course it's possible he doesn't know what he's talking about, I just find it quite unlikely...
