Don't put JS on a guitar stand!

Hi all,

It's been ages since I posted here. Anyhow, a quick recap, I own a Jaguar Special and a Jagstang. The Jagstang I bought purley as a collectors item. When they were reissued I thought it was the perfect opportunity to buy one in perfect condition, and leave it that way.

I didn't buy a case for it at the time because I was short of cash. So for about two years it sat in its soft case on a guitar stand.

The other day I took it out to admire it. Just before I put it back in its soft case I noticed a crack in the paint work. Right on the corner of the long butt of the guitar. The crack seems to go all the way through the paint work and is about 5 cm's long. I realised that all the weight of the guitar was on that one point for two years, and the crack has slowly formed. It looked like it would've kept going around the guitar if I'd left it there.

Needless to say I'm EXTREMLEY annoyed!

Is it possible to patch up? If I'd only bought a case for it!!!

Anyways, I'll post a pic of it after my exam in four weeks, when I have more time.

I never would've thought the paint work could crack like that just from being ona guitar stand ☹

Wow. I'd assume the stand was padded at it's feet? By that I mean that which holds the guitar above the ground.

I don't have a clue why that'd happen, but the re-issue Jag-Stangs really seem to be made a lot cheaper compared to the original. My friend's his would chip and dent and get cracks really easy, mine takes quite a bit, yet still easy since it's light alder wood.

Yeah it was definitly padded on the bottom. Because of the odd shape of it, in order to keep it upright all of the pressure is put onto that one area. But still for it to crack like that... I'll post pics of it and the stand later so you can get an idea.

I don't have much explanation for it. I know my Jaguar special seems to have a much thicker clear coat than on the JS. The JS seems just to be paint with the thinnest if any clear top coat.

I might buy another mint condition one and use this one as my main guitar and sell the Jag. Or sell the cracked one.

Yeah, I'd sell the cracked one. Post some pictures.

I know I haven't had any problems like this w/ mine. lol to be honest I thought the topic was gonna be like, "the weird butt end of the guitar makes it hard to get to stand in a guitar stand and they fall over easy!"

Thats what I thought this thread was going to be. Sorry to hear of the crack, i'd be gutted!

I used to have no end of problems with my jag-stang on a stand. Luckily it matches our colour scheme in the lounge so wifey let me put it on a hercules wall hanger, looks really good.

A laugh indeed. But I'd like to see the color scheme it goes so well with.

Its brown with duck egg blue which is quite similar to sonic blue. I'll post a picture later when i'm home.

Doesn't really show off the colour scheme but we have similar colour cushions around the room 😎

I'm currently in the process of repainting my room in the color scheme of my sonic JS. My mom is one of those designer types that has to constantly redo the house and finally got tired of my favorite guitar that is always out and within sight of messing w/ the color scheme, so she decided to make the room match the guitar to ease her mind, yes, neurotic I know (but I'm not complaining...). We also just went down and bought some of those Hercules guitar hangers too. Now I just have to find some foam pads or something else soft that I can put on the wall behind my guitar where it will hang to prevent an earthquake or random bump from messing w/ the paint job.

Anyone know where I could get color matched foam or pads that aren't too thick??
