That looked like an awesome event, and way cooler than the fancy-schmancy Stratocaster party.

After playing a Strat for five or six years I switched to the Jazzmaster and loved the richer sound. These days I just play Jaguars. I guess I'll have to wait until 2012 for the 50th birthday party.

Yeah, I play Jaguars as well. Can't wait till 2012 and I don't mean because of the olympics...

I think it is a good time to Buy one aswell, as there is so much hype around the jazzmaster prices of old jags have gone down.

I currently have a japanese 2004 special, but I want to get an AVRI soon.

I have two Jags and a Jazzmaster right now. you can see them in these pics from another thread, and further down, I posted a few more pics of the Custom Shop Jaguar. Sold the "other" green one last weekend. Felt bad, but it just would have been neglected. I LOVE the Custom Shop Jag and all the stuff I ordered on it, but the blue one you see is a refinished 1963 Jag... and it has a tone and vibe that is very cool.

I'd say more like a month, maybe a bit longer than that ago. Yeah, I wonder what happened to that guy.

I wish I could have gone, but, NY, school....doesn't work out for me.

somebody explain to me, how these fender strategies are supposed to work, please ...

currently, their roster is all about classics (and, granted, modded classics), strats, strats & teles and the odd mustang, jag, jazz. no more new designs, no cyclones, toronados, jagstangs, TC-90, it s all gone. i for one spent most of my time on the fender-site in the (now defunct) "other guitars"-section ...

i mean i do understand that they go for that classic "branding", probably it s successfull as well, i just don't like it myself ;-|

If you want to see a bunch of nutty guitar designs go over to Gibson and check out their guitar of the month section. The problem is that 90% of the new/retro designs are ugly as hell.

At this point I'm grateful that Fender is even making Jazzmasters and Jaguars; as we all know by now they were the forgotten cousins of the Fender meat and potatoes Teles and Strats. I suppose it's pretty dumb of me to say this on Jag-stang.com, but I was never too impressed with the jagstang design. Mustangs and Jags always looked so much cooler to me. I couldn't stand the Gibson Nighthawk either.

Funtoosh: have you ever checked out EastwoodGuitars? They have some pretty sweet vintage guitar designs reanimated from dead companies, and the prices are quite respectable.

Although nice to look at, I couldn't get along with the Jet King when I played one. The ORM-1 however is a great wee guitar. Great neck and really light weight.

It was the one that you posted a pic of. It just didn't feel good. It was heavy, the neck didn't do anything for me and if I remember correctly the frets were finished pretty badly.

Still looks cool.

if i owned fender i'd run a limited edition every three months and see what caught on. i mean what was their last truly original design? (dont say toronado, JS, cyclone, etc, those were just spin-offs)

about eastwoods & the ibanez: i do like those designs, and even likely the imperfections of their designs, it s like reintroducing the pawn-shop vibe into current production lines. cool.

better than just loads of strat & lp-copies, and, even worse ;-{ all those (probably well selling) heavy-thingies that stores are filled with these days.

i considered the eastwoods but finally never even got round to trying one because of the reviews (most of which say: good-looking, but cheapocheap production, plus in a lot of cases incompatible pickup-sizes that make it difficult to replace. the latter killed it for me).

at the time i was looking for a well crafted guitar, and that s simply not what these are about.

(i ended up with a 2nd-hand framus diablo, which cost only little more than an imported eastwood, and is of very, very high quality.
