basswood-strong mids, strong fundamental. thought to be best for distorted tones. used in the jag-stang among others. dents easy, requires thick finish.
Mahogany-similar in tone to basswood with more bass. les pauls, and every other gibson.
Alder-said to have widest frequency. great clean tones, and has bite when distorted. strats, jags, jazzys, most fenders.
Ash-great clean tones, mids focused in upper mids, but the midrange has different qualities from piece to piece. strats with clear/sunburst finishes often use swamp ash, as do teles and thinlines of the same finish.
Poplar-not good to look at, but tonally similar to alder, mids slightly lower, and less of the extended frequency range. mim fenders sometimes use poplar for opaque finishes. its cheap.

you forgot about neck and fingerboard woods. think of rosewood as the mahogany of fingerboards. maple is the alder of necks.
