I have used some awfully big strings on it with no troubel at all. You will have to compensate for the added pull of larger strings, but the truss rod is adjustable just for that purpose. You may remember that when this guitar came out in '64 we did not yet have access to the smaller string sets. 12's were considered light gauge and the Mustang had no problems adjusting to them.
i had 11s ernie ball, but with the hot rail, they almost whistled. so i put 12s and they're lookin pretty good so far. Elixirs are awesome.
thanks for this, Lostventure, the 12s are working fine but im being careful, i dont wanna get any higher than that- i didnt know about "this guitar came out in '64 we did not yet have access to the smaller string sets. 12's were considered light gauge." i mean obviously i knew it was a '64, but i didnt know when lighter strings were introduced. do you know the exact year of that?
