I always assumed he used strats, but I am not sure. I've seen pictures of Andrew Farriss playing all kinds of guitars. But the rythym guitar from Original Sin is almost definitely a strat (the song was produced by Nile Rodgers, who sure knew how to get the best out of a strat)
But other notable songs like Need You Tonight or New Sensation, I really don't know.
Have to disagree about Telecasters, though, not twangy enough.
And as for amps, and effects, I haven't a clue.
