Gibson angle their necks at between 1.5 and 3 degrees to get a low action on a TOM, so been as though Fender neck pockets are squared, you'll need a shim.
Just about any guitar you can think of (apart from ones with angled neck heels or pockets) will need a shim to get that super low action.
Fender guitars and bridges were designed to allow flat neck pockets and still get a low action, but obviously attitudes towards action has changed since then because just about everyone who owns one shims the neck.
I've never seen an adjustomatic, but you can bet your house on the fact that it won't be an improvement on the TOM, it may be a little lower, but you'll still need a shim.
Shimming is just about the easiest thing you can do to your guitar to improve playability without radical modding.
I don't see why you'd try to get around something that is that easy, i'd guess that if 90% of all guitar players change their own strings and set intonation, then 85% of them have shimmed a neck. I've shimmed all my Fenders.
