Classic Vibe Duo!

Ok, so in Glasgow, in the trusty Guitarguitar, I tried a new Squier Duo Sonic. It was nice! Played awesomely, and felt pretty familiar to me (much like my Mustang). Could have done with gague 10s on it though, the 9s seemed a bit floppy...

Unfortunately, I can't give any thoughts on the sound as I didn't get a chance to plug it in. Time wasn't on my side ☹ .

The colour didn't seem as bad in real life as it does in the pics, but I think I'd still consider a refin. Also I think they should have tinted the neck, like they did on the Classic Vibe strats and tele.

Over all though, a great wee guitar, really light weight too. I'll hopefully get a chance to hear what it sounds like next time 😛

I considered one of these when I bought my Jagmaster, but alot of negative reviews (mainly critisizing a bad action) put me off. The price wasn't great either, AUD$650 for the Duo-Sonic compared to AUD$459 for the Jagmaster.

As for the colour, the pics on the Squier site make it look awful, but I saw one for sale on ebay, and it looked way better under less harsh light.

The strings... Squiers are notorious for being equipped with Fender Bullet 9's, and yeah, who wants those? Still, the Duo is a shortscale, so 10's would be fine I think.

And yeah, that neck REALLY needs a tint...😉

Funny that, about the action. I found the action to be just about perfect.

That new Classic Vibe series by Squier is actually amazing. I've fallen in love with the 60s Strat, and I'm considering selling my Firebird in order to buy one.

I mucked about on a Classic Vibe 60's strat at my guitar shop, and I really liked it. Didn't get to plu it in, as it was close to closing time.

The guitar shop is go to (my local one, anyway) only stocks the high-end Squiers, ie the Hot Rails, classic vibes, flame tops, stuff like that. I do with they would get a Duo-Sonic in so I can have a muck about on one.

By the way, how is the neck on the Duo? Heavy heavy gloss, not my thing, but how did you find it plays?

I loved the neck. It had a gloss finish, but not a really heavy gloss finish. Personally I like a good gloss finish over a satin one. For example I played one of the J Mascis JMs (great guitar BTW) but I wasn't too keen on the satin neck finish. It felt kinda unfinished.

For sure, it really is a matter of personal taste. My hands get a bit sweaty sometimes, and I am not a fast player anyway, so I need all the neck I can get. My hand just sticks to gloss like glue...

I'd love to try a J Mascis JM - played a CIJ JM last week, and loved it, even though the vibrato system felt a bit... funny - but there is not a chance in hell I could find one in store in Melbourne. Guitar shops here seem to be really conservative. I went to a music shop on Saturday (Allan's in Melbourne) and the only Fenders they had were strats and teles, except for one JM. And that story is pretty much the same for most guitars stores I visit.

Sounds suspiciously like artificial relicing to me 😛

But whatever floats your boat. I happen to love gloss finishes on guitar necks.

thats why i just posted the pic and nothing else.

just got it, its a 59 body/bridge, 1960 pencil dated 22.5 neck.

1959 gold anodized guard(painted white of course)

the pups are both vintage but not original to the guitar, the neck is a 59 or 60, and the bridge is more like a 62-66

and re-finished shell pink(yeah, i play a pink guitar)

yup, thats u.s. dollar.

i think i saw one in lafayette(27 miles or so from my house) for about 300.00 maybe a tab less.

so the way i look at is i could have gotten two of the squires, or just a really coll vintage one for cheap.

i forgot to mention there is a fellow on the shortscale that bought one of the new duos.

put on a fender logo, tinted the neck, basically did everything that they should have done, it turned out looking pretty cool.
