Information on 1971 Mustang with humbuckers

I recently picked up a 71 mustang as a project guitar, it is in pieces.

Does anyone have any info on this model? It has two stock chrome fender humbuckers.

I was wondering is there a difference in the neck and bridge pickups and how do you identify which is which.

I've never seen a stock Mustang with humbuckers. In fact I don't think they ever made Mustangs with 'buckers as stock.

As for identifying which is which, I can't really help you. It depend's really, sometimes one has a higher resistance than the other, and sometimes the polepieces are closer together on the neck one. Pics would help 😉

Thanks for the reply Pete! The pickups are Fender just like the ones that were put in tele's at the time.. The Fender reissues are called Fender 72 humbuckers. I'll try and get some pictures tonight.

Oh right I know the ones you mean. They'll be Fender Wide Range pickups.

Is the pickgurard cut for the pickups?

they arent stock to the guitar. thats for sure. but it sounds cool. and the wide rangers arent neck or bridge. either works for either spot.

Yeah, they fit in the pickguard. The pickguard was made for these pickups. The body doesn't look like it was modified either.

Those pickups look really close together, doesn't look quite right to me, but I bet it would sound good 😀

Yeah, the pickups do look massive on that scratchplate, but I think it looks cool. I would love to see pics of the body though 😉

yeah, those pups are deff not original.

if you don't like the sound of them you can sell them on ebay for a stupidly high price, i want to say that they go for 250.00- as much as 400.00 on ebay.

only if they are originals with the pole piece/screws combo. the reissues have either ceramic (jap) or alnico (mex)
