Humbucker scratchplate for 'stang

Hi guys, first post and been reading around this place for a few weeks, glad to join up.

Just a quick question, how do you guys get scratchplates for a mustang with a bridge humbucker? Would a jagstang plate work? I don't really have the tools nor knowhow to do my own, and don't want to pay massive amounts for one.

take it to your local shop and tell em what you want. a jag-stang is not going to work i wouldnt think.

i'd say, search around ebay for a pickguard w/ a bridge humbucker, and if you don't find one, follow travs advice and take your pickguard or a stock one from ebay to a local store. if your luthier is too expensive try some other craftsman that may have similar tools ...

The jag-stang scratchplate will fit, but it needs a bit of tweaking before it does. That's what I put on mine.

Thanks so far folks. Never thought about ebay, i'm on it. What kind of mods would i need to do to a jagstang pick guard to make it fit?

Well the one I got (from WD music) required the piece at the control plate to be altered. It was cut to an angle, and needed to be cut straight with a bansaw or something of that type.

Also there was a little bit at the neck pocket that needed sawn off. Nothing too difficult. Although some might argue that it's easier to just route a normal pickguard for a humbucker.

I happen to have a CIJ 69 Reissue pickguard (ie- not gap between the control plate and guard) in "baltic amber" from Chandler pickguards (a nice alternative to tortoise shell brown but way nicer!), brand new still has plastic masking on it. It is routed for a straight humbucker (SD SH-4) at the bridge. US$50 + shipping?? Let me know, I could post pics.

Did you have to send a diagram of what you wanted to Chandler pickguards, or did you just tell them that you want it routed for a straight humbucker?

I have a 69 reissue that's beat up though the paint is in good shape, I'm planning on restoring it and throwing in some SD JB humbuckers in the bridge, but I don't want to cut up the current pickguard, I'm not very fond of brown tortoise anyways.

They asked that I sketch around the pickguard on an A4 piace of paper because there are a few slightly different Mustang plates. I left the neck pup as is and drew the staight humbucker on the template. If you contact them they'll tell you all you need to know.

BTW - I still have my Baltic Amber 69RI Straight bridge humbucker pickguard. Its not really like tortoise brown, its like swirly gold. What colour stang have you got?
