i heard about thier robot guitar stuff a few months ago, seems like cool stuff but i expect it won't really take off, or last that long.

remember the guitargon. the guitar with like 65 switches and pickups in the frets?

that came out in the 70's and had a footcontroller and everything, really high end stuff, but it failed.

same think with synth guitars, we have em, but no one really uses them.

My only problem with this--so far anyway, is it's not really a true solidbody--I'm not a fan of chambered bodies.

they have been doing chambered bodies as a standard for a few years now i think.

like since 2003 or so.

just as a weight issue tho, they say its for sound, but thats a normal gibson move.

no theyre not are they? i know the epiphone ultras are but apart from this one i want aware of any others

i know i saw a blurb about the u.s. standard gibby less pauls and it talked about them being chambered.

and i remember rick at the local music shop comparing a mid 90's u.s. standard and a 2005 and swore up and down that there was a 3 pound difference between them.

i think i may have also seen a thing about it on the web somewhere.

I saw those robot guitars in a guitar shop not long ago, didn't dare try it out. I don't really see the point in them, just another excuse for Gibson to over charge us for a guitar with a built in tuner. Well, granted it does more than that, but still...

They are--except for most Custom shop models and Historic reissues.

This could have been really cool if they'd left out the whole "robot guitar" thing, which, as was mentioned seems like a gimmick that probably won't catch on. Design is much better than the first few robot guitars though (looks less like an alien spaceship and more like a guitar) and the pickup array is stunning if overly complicated. People will buy it, but it won't supersede the regular Les Paul...
