Tune-o-matic !!

HEY! I was wanting to install a tune-o-matic bridge in my 72 mustang, but heard that it would make the tremolo not work right. Is this true? I don't want to go through all the bother if it is.

yeah I already saw that. my question was if it effects the tremolo -not if it is possible. I know that it's possible and that Kurt did it but that's not really my question.

This site's "Fender Mustang Story" page says:

"You can get this guitar with an optional Tune-O-Matic bridge!! I think that makes it just like Cobain's, but I doubt that your tremolo will work with a fixed Tune-O-Matic bridge (normal Mustang bridge rolls with the tremolo)."

Has anyone (living) done this and can attest to the fact that it doesn't mess up the tremolo. Believe me I've done my homework already, but I'm getting contradicting info.

if you use your trem, it would probly be best to stick with the stang bridge.

first off, its at the right radius for the neck.

the string spacing is also correct with the stock bridge, and no shim is required to get better action.

the main problem that i can see besides the normal stuff(shimming neck, wrong radius/spacing) is that with tremolo use you may encounter the strings sticking or rubbing too much on the saddles mainly the wound strings like your low e and a string, and potentially your d string as well(depending on the string size i s'pose)

youll want to get a roller tune-o-matic, thatll be an improvement over the stock bridge in terms of trem use.
