Don't know if you're referring to me or not. I set my distortion and gain effects louder then my clean tone so there's always a slight volume boost when I stomp on them. I hate when I see bands with really big and bright clean tones and then when they stomp on their distortion they turn into a soft sounding fizzy mud and disappear in the mix.
My big muff is way louder than my clean tone and I usually only have the volume on it at 12 o'clock, and I use a twin so of course it is already incredibly loud without any pedals, and then gets even louder with the muff turned on. That's why it seems to me like nirvana23's pedal must be broken, or he just has his clean tone up way way way too loud and the pedal's output all the way up is still lower and cutting volume when engaged.
What kind of amp are you using and what channel are you running the pedal through? Are you running the muff through your clean channel or through a dirty channel?
