That's what I was thinking. There is simply more space to work with.
IMO, 3 single-coils would be okay, but 2 singles and a humbucker, things start getting cramped. Especially given that the singles, are angled, and this would already limit the amount of available space for a humbucker.
But if it was going to be HSS, then the body would have to be re-routed, so I guess the pickups wouldn't have to be angled anymore...
