Yea, the '64 Mustang's decals were applied *over* the finish coat and commonly got flaked off. And, in '65/67 Fender switched from nitrocellulose lacquer to poly, but realized that the poly didn't respond well to the decals, to the top of the headstocks were shot in nitro, and the rest of the neck in poly.
