Just thought i'd post some pics of my '65. i've had it since September of last year. I do remember it sounding somewhat superior to how it does now though back when i first got it and im rather worried about that. As you can see in the pics, i also have a Tokai strat and lately i much prefer it and in my head i cant help but think how wrong that is. I doubt anyone would be able to tell me what might be wrong from these pics but any possibilities or suggestions are welcome nevertheless. It's all original but im thinking of having a few things done. mainly a change of pickups. i really dont have the knowledge that some of you guys quite obvious have and im basically just seeking opinions on how to achieve a glorious sound and any comments on the pics are welcome too....

That's a really really nice guitar, man. Take back that decal, though. It's not worth it, and your guitar looks wrong. Of course, this is just my opinion, but I think it looks butt.

Well, if it's all original, then sell it for very nice chunk of change ($1800-$2000) on ebay, and buy an RI for less than half that. They'll sound the same, have the same scale, and you can mod till your heart is content. If you mod that 65, you'll lose almost all the resale value, and I'll be forced to kick your ass.

thats a refinnish , dont ask why i think it is tho, i can just smell it 😆

but yeah apart from that. mod that guitar in anyway and after aug is finnished kicking your arse i will be next in a very long que.

Looks sweet. I don't think the paint has been refinished, the sticker on the pick guard gives it character if your girl, but the guitar looks great, check into Seymour Duncan pups.

That might be a re-finish. It looks a lot brighter than any other Dakota red mustang that I've ever seen.

That strat is bangin! Is it a 60's reissue? Tokais are really good.

Dakota red back then was sprayed either thin/1 coat or a 2 coats/thick or with primer or without and no primer will tend to be darker, I read that whole ramble somewhere online. Fender back in the day was really cheap on paint, they used the bare minimum, and paint fades in time or darkens, depends on how it lived life. I also read somewhere that different factory's mixed the color diff or something like that so there were some darker and some lighter, etc. 😕

How can you be certain though ?

Personally I think it's verging on what looks likes a re-finish to be honest, although photos are often deceiving.

because my mustang has the same thin-ass paint. In certain areas you can actually see through the paint. Exactly the same as the guitar in this thread. Now stop arguing with me, or I'll stop this car and give you something to cry about! 😲

well thanks for the replies....

first of all, the camera i used makes it look really bright red in the first pic so for the other pics i tried to cover the flash but it didn't work so well. So hopefully that clears up the little debate about the finish.

erm, secondly, the Tokai is a 70's re-issue. Lovely lovely lovely. I'll post more pics should anyone wish to see them...

thirdly, what's wrong with the headstock?

finally, after reading the posts here, im not gonna mod it. 😛

i can't imagine what he's talking about. looks fine to me.

we luv teh springsounds. i've been bidding on them on ebay for about a year now. but they seem to be going for more money nowadays

loose that decal.....i cant put decals on guitars...........unless its a compstripe.

I wasn't saying anything was wrong with it, quite the opposite. I just meant there was more chance of that clean finish of the body being original if also the headstock was in good shape too. And it is. 😎 That make sense ?
