Jag/JM Trem Arm on Mustang

Hi everybody,

I really want a lightweight guitar with a Jag/JM trem arm so I can get the Kevin Shields sound when strumming. I looked at the J Mascis JM, but I have my heart set on a '65 reissue Mustang, and the Mustang arm is too short for what I need it for.

Problem is, I dunno if I can use a longer Jag/JM trem arm on a '65 reissue Mustang! I've read about ppl replacing their Jag's bridge w/ a Mustang bridge; does that mean Jag arms would fit in a Mustang bridge?

Yes, people replace the bridge on their Jags with a Mustang one, but the tremolo arm isn't attached to the bridge. It's attached to the tailpiece.

Although I can see no good reason why it wouldn't work. You'd just have a very long trem arm on your Mustang, but if that's what you want...

go to a shop which has both guitars, and ask them if they can try it for you

ive always liked the idea of a stnag or JS with a jag tremolo, not the arm, but the whole unit

yeah, i really want a jag trem on my stang, but it would be quite a process

if you make the Do want JS you shold put a jaggy trem on it

Hello. I actually asked this question in the mustang forum like a month ago! I think its weird that someone else is asking it too! Anyway I actually tried this and these were my findings. The Jag/Jaz trem arm will fit in your tailpiece hole but...the short part of the arm that goes in the hole is too long. So baisically it sticks up way too high, like unreasonably high. The only thing you could do is file it down. Really you dont need one though. I had my mustang trem arm bent down to that it is closer to the pickguard and a lot easier to bend and strum. I listen to so much of the old Creation bands that this was absolutely necessary to be able to do the shimmering sound just like Mr. Sheilds or Mrs. Goswell. I have a CIJ 65 reissue just like you and I can play Alison and Loomer with the best of them so trust me just get your current arm bent at a shop.

you dont think a super hot torch will make it possible to cut through it with pliers or something? not a great idea, but it sure would be funny as hell to watch...

ahhh, got it. lost in translation, torch is never used in place for flash-light in the US (then again, maybe flashlight is used in place of torch)
