Who here would want a Squier Mustang?

I would personally love a squier mustang, I think it could be used to bridge the gap between Squier Classic Vibe and Fender Mexican Standard.

i thought about this before the classic vibe was released. but i dont think fender would do that after re-issuing the 65 at "999.99" list price, i know they never go for that much, mine was 700. but to put out a squire would greatly reduce the sale of the reissues. its too bad the classic vibe duo has the small strat headstock and isnt offset, a cbs and the offset contours would effectively make it a hardtail stang (duosonic 2).

But think about it, It's pointless to buy a Standard mexican strat when you have the same build quality in the Classic vibe. Maybe a squier Jagstang might be more popular.

I think they should start selling the Cyclones I and II and the Vista Series again... Those were great guitars...

i agree with you on the quality of the squires being very much comparable to the mexican fenders, even now when i look back i think about the fact that if the classic duo had come out before the stang i would probably own the former. i compared the mexican strats and the squire bullets, and the bullets seemed of higher quality than the mexi standards. a squire jagstang would be interesting too.

ive never played one, but aestheticly they look to be my dream guitar, not sure about the gibson scale though

i dont really get it... fender makes so many #### standard strats. just plain standard strats - there are 3 of them (american, squier, mexican) and then there are the deluxe player's strats, and all that crap.... why not make truly high quality instruments, and have one of your subset companies make the crap ones? unless fender goes into the hands of a true owner (rather than businessman), it will never recover i dont think... (not monetarily, in terms of making good, original instruments)

whats wrong with the gibson scale? im not saying it wasnt stupid of fender, but whats your point? I prefer it to 25.5

nothing is wrong with it, i just dont know if it would feel right on that guitar. 24 scale would be a better option in my eyes.

I struggle to notice the difference between 24.75" and 25.5". I notice more difference in neck shape than in scale. I found my Telecaster easier to play than my Jagmaster...

By the way... Yes, I would give my left nut for a Squier Mustang...

That would be pretty cool, I must admit. However, "bridging the gap" between the Classi Vibe series and Mexi Fenders? In my opinion, the Classic Vibes are better than Mexico Fenders...

theres definitely a difference between 24,24.75, and 25.5, although if you were switching between them you might not notice as much as somebody who almost exclusively plays 24, and then switches (like me) 1 1/2 inches is a big difference in a guitar.

That's a good point, Trav. I know when I still had my Jagmaster, I was trying to split my time evenly between it and the Telecaster, and yes, even switching from one to the other in the same sitting.

But for the past month or two it has been my Telecaster and 51 exclusively. Different neck profiles, but same scale. I'm sure if I tried a Jagmaster or Mustang now I'd notice the diff...

i find that when i play different scale guitars i tend to think about my playing totally differently. with my mustang 90% of the time i play high tuned open chord jangly type things. with strats i find melodies and runs better than the stang. and every gibson ive played i always end up noodling over the penatonic and boring myself, or wanting to play zeppelin.

I think that the biggest diffrence between scale lengths is the tone.

ie Fender 25 1/2 snap vs. Gibson 24 3/4 warmth

side note when you guys use diffrent scale guitars do you use diffrent strings?

all of my "stangs" (must',jag, musicmaster) I use 54-12s while on stnd Fender scale I use 52-10s

Yeah, on full-scale, i tend to use 10-46, on my Jagmaster I was using 11-50.

i use 11s on 24, although on my acoustic (25.5), i use either 11s or 12s

i had a mixed set on my stang with the e being a 13, and the low e a 56 , i liked it for a while but now have gone down to 10s and prefer it over any other setup ive had

I use 009-042 on everything electric solidbody, keeps things simple when buying strings, and I can get any gauge to work on darn near anything regardless of scale. My acoustics usually have 12-13s.

As for Squier, I do think a Squier Stang would sell pretty well. I know I'd buy one if not a few depending on price ($350 and lower I'd buy more than one so I could do mods and stuff). I also for years have wanted to see what a Squier Jaguar or Jazzmaster would be like. If they did a Squier stang, it would open up the door to the Jaguar as they could use the same neck on a Jaguar model, and the Jazzmaster could use Affinity Strat necks with a CBS Jazzmaster style logo.

I am honestly surprised they haven't.

Hell I am still a bit surprised they didn't make a Squier Jag-Stang considering they did for the Cyclone.

I'd be more interested in new designs though instead of reissues. Or at least reissue something rare like the Venus. Super-Sonic too I guess but I enjoy having a rare Guitar so I kind of enjoy the limited availability of those.
