The previous owner did quite a job at relicing it. He refinished it blue, added a stripe from a Mustang, scratched up the pickguard, and burnt the headstock with a cigarette.

I wanna swap out the neck, but I'm unsure what would be appropriate (Mustang, vintage duo-sonic, warmoth blank?). Here are the specs.

Fingerboard Maple, 9.5" Radius (241mm)

21 Frets

Suggestions?

how do you know? we still havent figured out if its conversion or genuine 24 at the other thread, did you email squier/take measurements or something?

Got my jagmaster back today, so I am about to take a few measurements...

All measurements are taken on the high e string. The comparison is a Squier Telecaster

Nut to 12th fret:

Jag - 12"

Tele - 12.8"

Nut to 21st fret:

Jag - 16.9"

Tele - 18"

12th fret to 21st fret:

Jag - 4.9"

Tele - 5.1"

21st fret to bridge saddle:

Jag - 7.1"

Tele - 7.5"

12th fret to bridge saddle:

Jag - 11.9"

Tele - 12.8

Those are the stats. Now whether of not the Jagmaster neck is a conversion neck, or if one will fit, I don't know, but the stats are now here if people want to work it out 😀

huh... i wouldve excpected more of a difference between a true 24 and a 25.5... .2" is easly within the range of the saddles... are they both perfectly intonated? we need somebody to measure from the heel to saddle on a 24" and see. i would, but wheres my measuring tape...

I just measured my Mustang. It's roughly 6.4" (measured from the centre of the fretboard to the middle of the bridge)

Looking at low E on the Jagmaster, I dont think the intonation screw would go back much further at all, as the spring looks very compressed and tight.

.2" is still about 4mm, so it's still a good distance. 4mm would take the low E saddle as far back as it would go, and the spring would have to be removed to make it happen.

One factor, is that I DID measure against a Tele at high e. Tele has square heel Jag has rounded heel, so this might make a difference...

KEEP THE NECK!!!!! it's hard as hell to find a 9.5" radius 24" neck.... if i could id swap my jag and mustang to all have those.... better action for lead and way less buzz, no choking off of notes past the 10/12th frets imho of course >= ) i think the neck(and the alnico v pups) is what takes the cake on the cv duo....

This is my suggestion that replace of the neck to Fender 25.5 scale is necessary to move the bridge according to new scale. And also it is better to image total balance.

1) I have 1963's Duo-Sonic. In 2005, I have exchanged original neck to Tele's 25.5 scale neck. Bolt-on was OK, however the distance between 12F to bridge saddle was not enough.

2) I didn't like any modification on original Duo-Sonic, so I made Duo-Sonic copy body in 2007 and joint the neck then found new bridge position. That was not bad if one point was excluded. What was bad? Length from machine head top to body bottom was too long. It could not be enclosed in ordinary hard case.

3) To short the total length I had cut the bottom of the body. However, it looked stupid a little.

Guitars that came with conversion necks that I'm positive of are Squier Cv Duo-sonic (25.5-24") , Squire Jagmaster 25.5 to 24"(you have to check the year made though, the second run has the conversion neck I believe.. (have one on my 90's MIM Duo-sonic right now), 1990'sFender MIM duo sonic reissue obviously (although the original neck is something like 25.5 - 22,75", can't really understand why they would't offer or just make the 24, PICKUPS ARE STELLAR.. i know there are more but you can find it with a little digging = )

The neck is super smooth, lightly glossed, but not so much that your hand gets stuck. Neck pickup sound nice and sharp, while the bridge pickup offers really warm tones. Both together offer the standard humbucking sound... The one I played was intoned perfectly, I didn't get a single buzz on a single fret... If you've ever played a squier bronco, the neck is similar...

I love the colors of the reissue Squier Classic Vibe Duo-Sonic. They are vintage correct with chromatic integrity...exactly what I like. The neck plays very smoothly and the pickups are great.

I do disagree with Cymaster on the pickup tones... my neck pickup is warmer while my bridge pickup is sharper. As expected.

He and I are each fortunate in having excellent intonation because this reissue shares a weak spot with the original Duo; the vintage design bridge can be hard to intonate. So...when you buy one make sure the tech sets the intonation with you there to be sure it's spot-on. Some of these just will not intonate perfectly.
