Plywood is fairly cheap and breaks easily.
I was diggin' some Danelectro guitar awhile back, then realized it was made of Plywood. For $270 i feel that i'm getting ripped off because well, its godddamn plywood...

theres no such thing as a tonewood. its a myth. every wood is a tonewood, because every would gives a different tone. yes, the sound comes from the strings affecting the pickups, but the wood affects the tone, attack, sustain, etc etc. if you disagree, you must think that palm muting doesnt affect tone.
plywood is disliked for several reasons. guitarists want to pay money and be told 'this wood is indigenous to some island somewhere, and was carved by a local on some island somewhere....' also, if a manufacturer makes a guitar out of plywood, its usually to turn a profit, so theyll put #### pickups, #### parts, and a #### neck on it.
tonally, plywood has a strong, bright attack, which quickly fades to a relatively short decayed, balanced tone. my plywood hollowbody egmond sounds beautiful. as good, although different than my jag, which ive put about 800$ into.
so you liked the tone of a guitar, but when you realized what it was made out of, you put it down? that makes no sense to me... if its got a good tone, why does what its made out of matter? youd rather have a #### piece of alder? a crap piece of a well known wood isnt better than a no name wood. why not follow your ear?
