Got it as a gift when I was 14 years old. It was used but probably no more than one year.

Not sure about that, I have the entire harness intact less the pups (which are still in the guitar). I used new parts and new (and proper) wire. I can always put it back as it was. The reason for the new stuff was to make the guitar usable again. It was not entirely functional due to being stored in humid conditions part of it's life. Could the switches and pots be brought back with a good cleaning? Maybe. Some of my amp's pots didn't come completely back and I will probably have to replace one or two. As always, I'll save the pulls.
The way I look at it is that if it doesn't work, it's not valuable to anyone except for parts or as a restoration project. I have yet to do anything that's not reversible. The refin is a different matter.
If I sold it, I probably wouldn't buy another Mustang. The reason this one isn't going to be sold is my personal history of ownership and the fact that it was a gift from my father.
The fretwork needs to be done and the cost is minor compared to the value of the guitar. I may not tackle the neck refin. It's not that bad. The body is a little banged up and in my younger days I used mom's nail polish as touch-up paint.
The pick guard will fit, the manufacturer (WD) is local and I can do what needs to be done to insure a proper fit. I'm more worried about getting the right match for the material.
