Yeah well hopefully if you ever spend $2,500 on a guitar you're wise enough to purchase one you actually like the sound of. That would make no sense to make that big of an investment into something you don't like, that is unless you're loaded.
I totally understand what your point is. And I wasn't directing my comments at you specifically, but to a large majority of people on these boards in general who seem to think whatever guitar they own at the time, be it built out of plywood or poorly matched alder, is just the bestest guitar ever. I'm not saying or trying to imply that you are one of these people.
The L5 comparison was an argument to extremes, I never said you said anything, so that's totally irrelevant.
My point, as someone who does play jazz regularly and who has owned a Jagmaster is that a Jagmaster does not produce anything reminiscent or comparable to what the "standard" jazz tone is (the Gibson L5). You don't have to own a $5,000 dollar L5 to get a similar tone, far from it. But most Jazz guitars and many hollowbodies are designed with L5 tones in mind, which the Jagmaster does not imitate. You might be getting a more muffled sound with less attack, but there's more to jazz tone, at least the tone of Wes Montgomery, Charlie Christian, George Benson, Joe Pass, etc. then just rolling off the tone on your neck pickup.
Now once again I'm not pointing the finger at you, but at a lot of guitarists in the world in general with what I'm about to say.
I think it's a truth that needs to be made clear perpetually on this forum, that there is such thing as qualities and types of tone that is distinguishable, and that "good" tone and quality craftsmenship isn't just some gimick made up to trick people into spending a lot of money (at least not always). I often get tired (especially on these forums) of seeing poor to moderately crafted and designed guitars and amps being paraded around as if they are in fact the holy grails of gear and tone. When these same people who are playing such guitars have never played or owned more than a handful of guitars, the majority of which are also poor to moderate in terms of craftsmenship, build, tone, playability, etc.
I don't agree that the Jagmaster neck FEELS exceptionally great for a gutiar neck. I would agree that it feels great in the spectrum of squier necks, but not in the spectrum of all guitar necks in general.
And yes, when it comes to gear there are certainly occassional diamonds in the rough to be found in terms of quality and price, but I've actually owned and gigged extensively the guitar you guys are referring to, and it certainly is not. The Vista Series, yes, maybe they're something a little special, but these chinese jagmasters are just a miniscule step above the squier guitars you find in a strat pack.
It's sometimes hard to disagree with someone without coming off as upset or a prick, but as someone who loves to disagree with people I assure you that I don't feel shotdown in the least.
