I may have only been playing guitar a paltry eleven years, but in my expirience, I prefer Poplar to Alder in Strats and would most likely lean toward Poplar in any other bolt on guitar. As I have yet to find a Set-neck Poplar guitar, I can't make a judgment on that. But I like the bite and snap of Poplar to other woods so far...
