which seymour duncan pickups are good for a Jagstang? i heard that when you have a jagstang it is a good thing to replace the pickups and put new one in it, to get a better sound. but which are good and better?

tragic is right, although it is widely known the jb was kurts humbucker of choice it does not make it by any means the best pickup ever made. if you want a new pickup go on youtube or pickup websites and look for sound cliips and get the one you think sounds best.

We should cut this guy some slack, he's obviously new at this guitar modding thing, we were all there once too.

Try a Duncan SSl-5 at the neck (like a Texas Special which kurt had) and a JB or SH-5 P.A.F at the bridge (PAF style humbucker is what kurt originally wanted at the bridge, this one is similar but has more output, better for grunge).

If you want the "best" Duncan pickups for the jagstang in my opinion it would be Seymour Duncan's Antiquity Texas Hot at the neck (which would be like an improved Texas Special, which Kurt had at the neck) and a Seymour Duncan Custom Shop BroBucker at the bridge (this is the ultimate hot sounding PAF).

So you know I made my choices not based on my preference, but on what I thought would get you closest to how Kurt's Jagstang actually sounded as thats probably what you're looking for right?

^ that is the best idea if you are going for replicating kurts sound, but if you want something different practically all pickups would fit in the guitar and if you found a sound you really like in a pickup different from the ones in kurts then go for it, its your guitar and your tone so its all up to you in the end. 😀

But to clarify, the most correct pickups for kurt likeness for that guitar are a Fender Texas Special and Dimarzio Evolution Neck DP158, or even a Dimarzio Super Distortion.

That's if you're not worried about sticking with Seymour Duncan, but I like his pickups much more then I like dimarzio's or fender's.

not that this has anything to do with the jag-stang, but the dimarzio humbucker from hell is a great neck pup for non-paf clean tones

Yeah those would sound really good together, the neck would be better for clean tone and bridge for dirty, but you could probably get some nice cleans and dirt from both.

Also keep in mind pickups and guitar are only a part of your sound. For grunge you're going to need a good tube amp that can get a nice crunch sound when it's pushed, and that can also clean up fairly well, especially for the loud soft loud dynamic that grunge music uses a lot.

The SH-5 Duncan Custom and Pearly Gates are my favourates. Lots of tone, range, and not too high output but enough to put valves into submission.
