At the pawn shop today I ran across a couple of candidates for a project.
1) Cort G-Series - HSS, 1 volume, one tone, 22 fret, AUD$145. The guitar looks somewhere between a Mustang and a Parker Fly. I think it has what is referred to as a 2-point fulcrum vibrato.
2) Belle (it says that on the headstock. No other identifying marks of serial numbers) - SSS, 1 volume, 2 tone, 23 fret, AUD$75. Interesting shape, hard to describe, but once again, the Fly comes to mind...
3) Squier Affinity Strat - SSS, 1 volume, 2 tone, 22 fret, AUD$195. Arctic white. In horrible condition. Many dings, broken pickguard, missing screws.
Which seems like the best platform to start from?
The Cort looks solid, and my plan is to build an HSS, so it wins points here.
The Belle has a good shape, cool pickguard shape, and a VERY low price. The 23 fret neck is a concern. I think it would be hard to replace.
The Squier is a Squier, and wins points simply for that alone. I know Fender parts will fit, and most techs know how to deal with them. But for the condition the guitar is in, the price is very excessive. I could buy a Bullet for the same price.
The plan is to gradually swap most of the parts away, mostly the electronics. Then a refin.
