Help!

I just got the Jagmaster neck for my MIM duo body. It fits the pocket like a glove but when I put the screws thru the holes in the body to the wholes in the neck there is a 3/8 inch gap at the end of the pocket & the 12th fret to the bridge is off by the same.

My question/need for help is:

Do I need to fill the original holes in the neck before I drill the new screw holes? Also do I even need to drill new holes or can I just use a power drill & let the screws make their own hole? Thanks in advance for the help!!!

Well, since I don't know which jagmaster neck you are using, I can't guarantee it'll intonate, but it's perfectly fine to drill new holes. You also don't need to fill the old ones and I DEFINITELY would NEVER not drill the pilot holes for the neck, as the screws WILL split the neck. I know... I got lazy and found out the hard way.

I talked to a wood worker I know and he said the same thing about pre-drilling.

It's a Squier Jagmaster Standard Series neck...why would it not intonate? I'm not doubting you just want to learn as much as I can in this project. I did the measurements and with the new wholes it measures 12" from nut to 12th fret and 12" from 12th to bridge dead on...Is the fret spacing different from the 12th fret down on this neck? Again just trying to learn as much as I can on this project so I can make other mistakes in the future. 😀

I think - but not 100% sure - the reason Aug said it might not intonate is because some Jagmaster necks (pre- '06 or '07, I think), used full-scale 25.5" scale necks, whereas the new Jagmasters use 24" scale conversion necks.

The first two numbers of the serial number will reveal what year the neck is from...
