Its totally dependant on personal taste IMO. There's no "standard".
Jaguars,Jazzmasters are single coil guitar and use 1meg pots, thats 1,000K.
Tele's used to use 1Meg pots, strats use 250k,mustangs 250k, most humbucker guitars use 500k unless active then the can use 25-100k pots.
It all depends on how bright you want your guitar. 250k with humbuckers is dull and lifeless IMO. But single coils with 250k-1meg is fine.
Buy a set of each and try them out.
