I too feel the combo that works best depends on the colour of the guitar. I guess I meant this thread to mean "generally". Like if someone was to lay down 10 guitars of varying colours and shades and ask you to outfit them with pickguards of any colour you like, what would be the combo you would end up with the most.
The white strat with the red tort is a good example for me. Yes, it looks great with the red tort, but for me, a three-ply white would look even better.
I was kinda trying to get a feel for overall taste, I guess...
