i think i need to clarify just how bad the condition of this thing is.
first of all
a.) the body has been repainted and refinished HORRIBLY
b.) the electronics had been gutted , thus to get it back to working condition it will need COMPLETE RE-WIRING, new pots and A NEW OUTPUT JACK (thus decreasing its value significantly)
c.) it had aftermarket tuners installed meaning it has new holes drilled on the back of the neck.
basically this is far from an 'ideal' vintage guitar. the three main components of a guitar (body, electronics, neck) have ALL been poorly modified or damaged. the parts of this guitar that are vintage have either been tampered with or need replacement, and as it is, this is NOT a very good guitar to be brutally honest.
at some point, i think the whole fascination with vintage guitars is going a little too far. i don't see why a guitar that is simply OLD is seen as desirable, even though it is crap! obviously, i'd take a vintage 60s mustang over a new re-issue mustang... and i probably would never deck out a nice, working vintage guitar... but i really think this is a different scenario.
suppose i did leave it as it is, and just did the changes i need to get it working (ie re-wiring, repot, setup etc)... what i would have is basically a semi-"vintage" guitar, that isn't really worth much to being with, and really doesn't have a lot of playing potential. What attracts me to the mustang/musicmaster is the slim, small, body and small-scale neck, none of which would be affected by my (proposed) modifications.
and no thanks, i won't trade lol.
