Hello, Jeffery Smith from New Orleans here. I just received my 62 Jaguar from MF this afternoon (ice blue metallic). My timing was good, in that a day or two after ordering it, the price jumped $400. I noticed that it was about $2K at Sweetwater but was only $1.5K at MF. Now it is $1.9 at MF!

But more than just introducing myself, I also have a question. In the research I did before ordering the Jaguar, I got the impression that it was made to be used with flat wounds. But mine arrived with round wounds, so Fender obviously doesn't think it should only have flat wounds. Which type and gauge of string works best with the 24" neck? I'm not a hard strummer, and have weak fingers due to a neuromuscular condition. I want to make it as playable as possible.

nice! and string tension goes down a bit so try going up a gauge from what you would use on a 25.5, and go from there.

Welcome.

Most people seem to use 10s, although like Trav said, the shorter scale allows you to feel comfortable with a heavier gauge string.

The Jaguar is surrounded by a lot of traditional myths like.. you need heavy gauge strings or it will buzz and you need flatwounds, etc. Truth is, it does'nt matter. It is possible to set it up to use what you want and play what you want.

Thanks much, guys. I think I'll try what is on there now for a week or so. Just wish I knew what gauge they are. Does Fender ship the Jaguars with a standard 10 or 11 gauge?

I'm 90% sure they ship with .010s, but I need verification. I use .011s on my Jaguar which seem to be perfect, not to flimsy for heavy rawking, yet thing enough to bend without much resistance. I think .011s are the way to go, but try 'em yourself.

according to fender.com/products it should be:

i'd give the flatwounds a chance some time, you might try labella 11s, a great match w/ the sound of the jag-pickups, i think, but not your type of string if you are after loads of sustain and distortion.

I just got my Jag a few months ago glad i did now that he price went up what is fender thinking increasing prices in this economic climate its like they want to lose money but anyway i play 9-42s on my jag and i set it up right so there are no buzz problems or anything else and i love the nice bright tone i get out of it with those on there.
