strat has the bridge pup angled, where the strings are actually spaced slightly further apart than they are at the neck. so it doesn't really make any sense. what would make more sense, to me, would be to have the neck angled, and the bridge straight.
it was probably just done for looks on the stang. i don't really think angling the pickup would make that much difference to sound though, really
