Hendrix / Clapton Delay pedal

Hey, some one has told me that instead of buying a Boss dd-20, i should buy the "digitech hendrix / delay pedal" i have no idea what this is, and there are no traces of it online,

does anyone have any idea what this pedal is?

I know theres a Hendrix; wah, fuzz, octave fuzz, uhm... another wah by digitech..

They (Digitech) also have an Eric Clapton pedal "Crossroads". I believe its an overdrive pedal.

Never heard of a Hendrix delay pedal.

They're probably referring to the Digitech Jimi Hendrix Experience Pedal which has delay on some settings and the Eric Clapton Crossroads pedal. Both are great but if you're looking for a sound other than JImi Hendrix or Eric Clapton they won't do it. I think Digitech also makes a Brian May pedal and a few others. youtube either pedal for demos of em.

I was never a fan of Digitech. My mistake, i thought the digitech hendirx pedal was just a wah. I never really looked into it. I personally dont see the point in duplicating someone elses sound exactly.

You can't turn the Hendrix Pedal off once you turn it on so you'd need a true bypass effects loop if you wanted to turn it on and off. Although quite a few of the modes have a clean setting.

Hendrix never used delay outside of the studio, it wasn't really an integral part of his tone per se, except maybe a few songs. If you wanted hendrix like delay you would just need a warm analog slapback delay and something that does reverse delay.

Oddly enough most effects pedals are designed to imitate someone else's tone. The majority of fuzz pedals are based off of germanium fuzzes from the 60s, made popular by hendrix, clapton, gilmore, and the like. Overdrive pedals are almost all tubescreamer circuits in one form or another, meant to sound like SRV.

Well, yes, thats a given. I'm just not into pedals are supposed to emulate somones entired rig.

Yeah, piss on that rubbish, man. I mean, getting a Fuzz Face is one thing, but be a little creatative, y'know? Unless yr playing just his songs, those signature pedals are useless. If i pllay one of my riffs, i want it to have my sound, otherwise...it doesn't really sound like mine then...y'get where i'm coming from..

i heard that a part of his sound was that the pups were still upside down when he played those flipped strats.. anyone care to comment on that?

Yeah that's a pretty valid point, especially since all strat pickups had staggered magnets at that time; this meant his magnets were closer to his high and upper mid strings and further from his bass and lower mid strings.

There's custom handwound pickup guys like VooDoo Pickups who will even wind and stagger your pickups backwards for you if you really want that sound so badly without flipping a "lefty" and playing "righty."

But his tone was primarily in his marshalls, fuzz pedals, wahs, univibes, and most importantly HANDS. You can get a nearly identical tone if you have the above gear without worrying about pickups, as long as they're low output strat single coils and you play liquid lightning fast Albert King licks. 😉

The pickups being flipped probably did add to his sound, i do remember reading somthing about it awhile back, but i cannot remeber what it said exactly.

i don't think it added huge amounts to his sound. and when it did, it would only affect the loudness of certain notes in chords. the timber of the notes might be relatively different aswell. Besides, with all of the dirt and effects he ran at times, it doesn't make a huge difference. I would say if you are extremely concerned with emulating his clean live chording tone MAYBE go for reverse staggered pups. just my opinion...

get an analog delay pedal either an ad9 or dm2 i have a dm2 and its the #### makes all kinds of great warm delay and feedsback and even gets a ringmod kind of tone

Yr right, Trav. I did it actually, with a SD Hotrails (obviously that wasnt going to do schit, they're blaes.) Normal strat pickups didnt change either.
