Protools and Nuendo. I just use Reason, Fruity Loops, and Garage Band to make loops and sometimes for MIDI. But I use protools everyday at school for MIDI and audio recording and mixing so I just feel really comfortable with it.

At home I have absolutely nothing, this is my girlfriends 2003 HP laptop I use to get on here. It has no audio software.

Yeah, I'm regretting not doing music for GCSE. Then I would have an excuse to do some more recording.

I have made a couple of videos but I need to do some syncing and editing to get them nice.

This is the stuff I have for recording though:

Trust WB-1400T webcam

Soundcheck dynamic mic

xlr-usb lead

I used to record off the ME50 but the bogner is on the way so I got the mic and lead

i guess this is relevant:

with my newfound income, im gonna be getting a mesa express, and setting up a studio in my practice space. I have the perfect room, a decent computer which i will dedicate to recording, getting rid of everything else, my friend can get me the software (cakewalk 8 producer), and im getting an alesis IO14 firewire interface (hooks up mics/synths/drum machines/monitors/pretty much anything else), krk rokit 5 monitors, some nice headphones, an sm57 to start, and some basic midi controller to run soft synths. about 789 total, which will take between 4 and 5 1/2 weeks depending on how much money i make. starting in like a month and a half 😎 (of course that doesnt factor in things like fixing up my amp, buying guitar strings, etc. so add a few weeks)

Its way more complicated then this but basicly the frequency response is setup so that a 57 is more ideal for instrument micing & a 58 is set for vocals. The 57 is pretty flat & lifeless when used for singing however I've used one & don't mind it that much though there is a lot of popping due to not much wind screen. Also just as a piece of "useless information", the president of the USA uses 2 sm57s w/ big windscreens for all his public speaches.

the ONLY difference is that 58=pop filter. ergo as a starting mic it would be better to use a 58 because that way if you ever need to record vocals it would sound better.

my understanding:

they are electronically the same. the 57 has a proximity effect for vocalists that acts as a bass boost, filling out weak vocals. the 58's windscreen gives slightly less high-end response, and the ball at the end eliminates the proximity effect. I figure that since I will be using it mainly as a mic for guitar cabs, the high end response is more important than wind noise reduction.

should have said it was just for cabs ^^

My recording setups

Pre-Software - Peavey XR-684 Mixer with 2 tape decks, one output, one input, would flip flop tapes to record multiple tracks while mixing on the fly. Had a Casio CA-100 keyboard for a drum machine.

Early Software - Quartz Audiomaster Freeware, using at first a BOSS ME-6 into a Korg AX30G to set up my guitar and bass sounds. Later this was replaced by a Digitech RP-200A, then a BOSS ME-33, and then my Behringer V-Amp Pro.

Current Setup - Behringer V-Amp Pro into Reaper recording software (free when used not commercially). I use my pedalboard that I use live for additional effects, and MIDI control to edit patches for bass, guitar, and sometimes synths (usually the small cheap keyboards). I can get up to 128 Tracks of audio. Ocassionally I use a cheap Wally-World Microphone into the Mic In for acoustic instruments that don't have a transducer pickup.
