it's not a stupid design. it's meant for trem use. and that it does well. if you use it with a jaguar, it'll be fine.
what i would say, is that use of untaped posts on a mustang/jag-stang (or possibly with a buzzstop on a jag/jazz) will make it gradually slip towards the neck. because the angle of the strings is heavier behind the bridge. but with a standard jaguar, the strings are more even either side. it won't move unless you push it. which couldn't really be done by accident. i don't tape my posts, because it's impossible to do, if you have a mute fitted. never moves at all
