I have been trying to dig around for all of this stuff, but am spinning wheels. I figured it might be a simple quiz for some of you.

Where can I get replacement bridge mounting cups (the conical inserts that the neck sits in)? Any idea on a good price?

Do all competition models use a white pearloid pick guard? My CAR came without one without and I want it to look like all the other kids. There's no sense in a mint green and a CIJ reissue, right? I just don't know about the stripe. Are they meant to be ironic?

How many neck lengths are there? My Mustang reissue has a longer neck than my Duo reissue. I always thought there were only two lengths, and the Mustang in the short camp. Are the CIJs longer?

Since I can't get a list of parts needs to build a Mustang from scratch (which I virtually have to do) if I put together a list of what I have, could people comment on what is missing?

1. Mustang dont have bridge mounting cups, only Jazzmaster and Jaguars do

2. Yes all competition models (ie Red, Blue and Orange, each one with comp stripes and USUALLY a matching headstock, unless reissue) come with pearl pickguards (but not 100% sure abou Japanese reissues)

3. Get mint green if you want, its your guitar

4. Stripes meant to be ironic? They are a racing stripe, the whole idea and paint scheme of the competition series was for it to look like a racing car. Personally, most people think they look awesome

5. There are many scale lengths, from about a handspan long to the length of your arm. Most common scales for guitars are 22.5", 24", 24.75" and 25.5". 24" and less are commonly refered to as "short scaled", 24.75" is used commonly by Gibson while 25.5" is used mostly by Fender.

6. Mustangs come in two lengths: 24" and 22.5", 24" being the most common. 22.5" is rarer, and doesnt feature on the reissues

7. Post some pictures and we probably can tell you

i think those mexican duo sonic reissues are 22.7" scale. which is strange. can't understand why they didn't just use 22.5"

dunno what you're on about with the neck part. but japanese jaguar/jazzmaster bridge bushings will do.

off the top of my head, i think every compstang i've seen does have a white pearl pickgaurd.

i see no reason why not.

i doubt there's any irony about it. just a feature that they decided on in the late 60's. perhaps it was influenced by mustang cars (did ford mustangs come with stripes?)

Yes. In fact stripes came from the factory on lots of muscle cars. No doubt that's where Fender got the idea, especially since they were already using duplicate colors of automotive paints.

Thanks, dudes. I will put together a list and some pics.

I like the racing stripes, but I had never heard an explanation, or why they appeared on some models and not others. There seems to be a link between cars and guitars when it comes to those early paint choices.

They stopped the matching headstock in 71 or so, and comp mustangs stopped in 72, the same time as pearl pickguards, so they should all heve one, but not all will have a matching headstock.
