Why Ground 'Stang Switches?

Can someone explain to me why the DP3T switches on a Jag/Mustang are grounded to themselves? Wouldn't you just want the AC current to run through the switch, and let the pots shunt the excess to ground?

I've been squinting at the wiring diagram for hours feeling like I'm missing something obvious. Thanks for any help. 😕

Everything should be grounded, even the thimbles that the bridge sits in. If not, when you take your hand off the conductive parts on the guitar it will buzz. It sounds bad and unprofessional.

Tell me about it...i have to find a missing ground on my Jag after rewiring and my strat. I said fudge it for now. Im sick of screwing and unscrewing things 😠

you want to ground EVERYTHING not in the audio path, like fran said. all of the grounds are eventually grounded to the jack, traditionally through the pots, so it doesnt matter how they get there as long as the path is clean.

I have a feeling i have to reground the trem spring claw, i broke both those joints so i could remove the pickguard... 🙄
