help with string change

hey, today i bought a jaguar hh and its a really cool guitar. im just wondering how i would go about changing strings as the tuners on this jag are not like any ive seen before. i think its the slot on the top thats throwing me (im used to grover type tuners with the holes on the sides). any tips or links on how i would go about changing my strings with these tuners?

The big thing to remember with the vintage-style tuners (if that's what you have) is that whatever length you cut the string is the length it's going to stay. A couple times I've cut them too short (especially on the high E and B strings), and when you start to tune the string the tension may pull the the end out of the tuner if the string isn't long enough to wind around the tuner head a few times. Make sense? Other than that it is fairly straightforward, once you've cut a bit (not too much!) off the end of the string, you stick it in the hole, bend it sideways so it's sideways parallel to the headstock, and then start winding the tuner, making sure to keep the string winding around the post the same as you would with grover-style tuners.

Oh christ, i had that problem when i got mine, too. It came with some ridiculously small gauge (i didnt even know that 8s existed, but thats what they felt like) and i was trying to replace it for a bout 45 minutes. It could have been longer. I was blinded with fury, and i think i supressed those memories. 😆

It was also the last day of summer vacation... 😕

And my bird had just died. ☹

you can go about it several ways, by using the hole, notch, or both - i prefer both. the way i do it on higher strings is to first insert the end in the hole, then wrap it around the semicircle of one of the bits formed by the notch, and putting it through the string tree. result - 4 kinks and a lock, pretty solid method w/little slippage. for the bass strings you can't pull this off very well, so i just use the hole, inserting the end and then kinking it and winding. or you can treat it like gibson style-tuners just using the notch.
