The sonic blue Jag-Stang
From what is written on the intarweb, Kurt put the design to Fender around Feb 1993, but it is not entirely clear when he received the 1st Sonic Blue one, was it mid 1993 or was it during the In Utero tour later in October 93?
Are there any good comtemporary pictures of this one from REM? I never really noticed before, but the sonic blue one looks to be a different shape to the production model. the pickguard and lower cutaway look closer to a mustang. Subjectively, this blue one looks much coooler 😁 did the sonic blue one always have a non-pearloid guard?
The fiesta red Jag-Stang
Going by pictures of this on the kurts guitars now blogspot, it looks like this is the Jag-Stang that all subsequent production models are based on. Presumably this guitar was manufactured in March/April 1993 based on Fender being in the process of shipping it when they heard of his death.
To me, the red one looks like an entirely different shape than the blue one... why is this the case? was it based on feeback from earnie and why did it take Fender more than a year to produce another Jag-Stang for Kurt? I would have loved to have seen Kurt with this red one.
