I'll start a thread about it on offset and here....
I strongly disagree with that statement. Most metal licks are actually pretty simple (not counting the blazing solos and stuff like that, but I'm talking about rhythm guitar), if you're reasonably fast and reasonably accurate you can play tons of metal licks pretty easily. At your level, I think you'd be able to hold your own as a rhythm guitarist in a metal band that does most of their playing in the drummer's garage. I know this is probably not where you wanna end up, but we all gotta start somewhere.
