Any nickel-plated Ernie Ball set will be good for pretty much all applications. To get a smoother grungey distortion leave them on your guitar for a lot longer between changes and use Fast-Fret before and after playing to keep them fresh and free from rusting and corroding. Brand new strings can make lots of unwanted treble, noise and squeeks in my opinion; and by changing strings less often you will save money. The sets on my guitars never come off ealier than a month, some more than three - Fast-Fret is my best friend.
And I'd say leave Elixir alone for electrics, any set of strings for ~
