shielding question?

I've had my jag-stang for over 10 years and I've decided to mod the hell out of it and gut and replace everything in it. I'm not a pro at this but I've decided why the hell not since this guitar has been collecting dust.

So i decided to shield it. I covered the pickguard in copper and I'm starting on the guitar but I have no clue what I'm doing. There is a wire grounded to a lug on the body, under where the humbucker is...... now do i unscrew it and lay down the copper then screw it back?

I know its a dumb question, but help a brother out.

I'm going to be asking alot of dumb questions while I'm working on this guitar.

May I recommend that you change the pickups? Go to guitarfetish.com. They do excellent pickups at about $20-$30 each.

I did that and it works a treat. I'd also put electical tape in the routes to keep it dust and dirt free. Dirt comes back quickly - I live in a 70 year old house in the middle of london so dirt comes back really quickly for me

should i do any soldering?

Depends. What sort of shielding are you using? If its foil, you don't. If it is tape, you need to solder so there are no gaps. It takes a lot of solder 😲
