would i need to get 500k pots? or would it sound fine with the stock pots, a new humbucker and an orange drop? i got a dimarzio super distortion btw, i figured since i have a seymour duncan jb in my mustang, id try dimarzio in my jagstang 😉

I think for a 'bucker you want a .47

I have also heard that 500k pots are better for 'buckers, but then again, I know NOTHING about electronics. I'm just recycling things I have heard.

But I AM putting a .47 in my Jagmaster.

Jagstangs come with .47s and they sound really muddy. This is because of the basswood - it has a lot of mids so it sounds quite warm. Add that to big caps and you have a stupidly fat sound 😕

i've heard that 500k are better for buckers too, but i have a jb in my mustang with the stock pots and no mods and it sounds great.

Not to mention that tha pickups are supposedly crap, and IMO that is where MOST of the personality of the sound comes from.

i went ahead and bought a .022 orange drop. i do only need one right? for the tone pot?

Yeah, just one. And good choice by the way 😉

But I'd SERIOUSLY suggest keeping the electronics intact. Just de-solder the two wires that connect the switches to the control plate. Then remove the knobs with a couple of spoons and remove the pots. Put that whole assembly in a box somewhere.

Then You need to get this lot:

Wiring kit from stewmac - this includes pots, a switch, a cap (which is utter sh!te) and wires.

Shielding kit also from stewmac

New pickups (guitarfetish.com)

Mustang selector switches, You CAN'T use jaguar ones

This means that you get a better sound and less noise from decent wire and good shielding

I'll also do you a wiring diagram with a better switching arrangement.

Oh and btw, as you may know, jagstang pickups switching works like this

Neck on (out of phase)

The neck pickup switch is the only one that controls phasing

+ If you buy a push/pull pot, you'll be able to do coil splitting with the humbucker.

Another thing 🙄😆 I have a beautiful seymour duncan SSL-3 pickup for the neck. I can sell it for $50+shipping (which will be like $10)

im not switching out all the electronics, all im doin is replacin the stock bucker with a dimarzio super distortion, and replacin the old cap wit the orange drop. everything else is gonna be kept stock.

Srsly mate. You need to keep all the original stuff intact.

Also, you should replace the switches and pots because they suck. And the wires and everything else. There are better single coils out there dude

And don't get a dimarzio super distortion because they're really expensive and you can get amazing pickups from guitarfetish at a fraction of the cost

yeah im havin 2nd thoughts bought changin the pup and orange drop..idk ill have to wait to see how it sounds stock.

It sounds sort of weak and whiney stock. I suppose it has its own sound.

Going through a good tube amp it would sound better than a lot of guitars I've tried.

If you want it sounding good through a solid state amp, you need better and hotter pickups. Just PM me with video links to some songs you want to replicate the sound of and I'll give you a shopping list. The stuff you need to get for the mods shouldn't come to more than about $120
