My project guitar has been seriously downgraded

K So here it is. I'm gonna buy a DIY Strat Kit from Guitarfetish and do a couple of mods to it.

So here is gonna be the end result:

Color- Surf Green (Relic'd and maybe w/ some stickers)

Tuners- I dun know yet but I'm gonna upgrade these from the cheap ones that come with it.

Pickguard- Black Guitarfetish Squier 51pg

Neck pup- 14.5k White GFS Lil Killer (I know it's hot for a neck pup but I've had one lying around forever so I figured what the heck)

Bridge pup- Red Seymour Duncan Pearly Gates (Drools)

Controls- 1 concentric pot w/ aged chrome knobs (volume for each pup) and a jack.

Headstock- Small Strat Style

Other- possibly some Schaller Straplocks

I'm saving up my money for the Vox Nightrain So this is gonna have to wait until around October or November so I can get it as a birthday/Christmas present. So I honestly think this will be pretty much amazing, so I'm really excited. What do you guys think?

(PS I'll also have a cheapo prewired pg, tuners, and a strat jackplate leftover from the kit.)

(PSS the prewired pg doesn't have GFS pups in it.)

I'm considering getting that kit, sanding off the top of the body and putting a bookmatched piece of flame maple on and dying it red. 😋

I'm also gonna be painting the neck vintage amber (like on Jag-stangs and older Fenders). BTW does anyone know where I can get a Fender headstock decal?

fair enough, i dont really know anywhere that sells them, i suppose you could get some decal paper and print them

I found a site that sells strat decals from all eras for about usd 15 a piece. they also sell fake serial numbers for the back of the headstock Muahahaha 😈. The also have Mustang, Jazzmaster, Musicmaster, etc. decals. if anyone's interested the site is http://www.81x.com/oscarmcvittie/decals/

(PS I've calculated the total cost of the project. It comes to $333.14+S&H +Tax)

nah, don't get the kits, buy the bodies/necks in seperately finished, and all the other bits seperate

I've already built a guitar by buying all the parts seperately and it's way more expensive and I'm already pushing my budget as it is. This is basically a fun thing (which taking the amount of time it takes to make sure you have every screw you need and stuff kinda takes the fun out of it). Plus if it doesn't work out I've got a $100 humbucker and some parts out of the deal.

I can't wait till my birthday rolls around in November. I'll probably be able to talk my mom into letting me get this early (I'm shooting for September, but it'll probably end up happening sometime in mid to late October)

It's gonna have two humbuckers in a solid body... Ya there'll be noise but it'll be pretty minimal plus I'm used to noise unless it's really excessive. Kinda just not worth the effort for me. Although I'm considering getting one for Alice.

So my project got downgraded due to my recent amp purchase...

anyways I'm getting a tele kit from guitarfetish cuz it's hardtail and there's no point in getting the strat kit if I can't do all the cool stuff I was planning on. I'm going to just do it as it comes and then upgrade the bridge pickup and the tuners when I get the money for it. It's going to have a red sparkle finish w/ a matching 50's style strat headstock. I'm not as psyched about this as I was about my other project but it'll finally fulfill my desire to put together for myself. Plus, I might continue to mod it as time goes on.

I'd normally be very interested, however the purpose of this project is to finally satisfy my desire to put together a guitar with my own two hands. I've wanted to actually build a guitar for myself since I started playing guitar and there's literally ALWAYS been something else that comes up when I have money. But now I have my dream amp, a fuzz pedal, a bass, a jag-stang, I don't see what else could get in the way. If I used your strat I'd simply be modding a guitar, not actually building one. Thank you very much for the offer though.

It seems to me like you would just use some of this (or something similar) and then spray lacquer over it. Am I missing something?

Wow! Right on cue something more important came up! So here's the story:

Onboard effects on amps have always bugged me. Because you either leave them on or you add extra pedal dancing to deal with them using a footswitch (especially if you'd like to turn them off every time you switch from clean to dirty and then turn them back on when you switch back). This has never really been a serious problem for me before since with the Valvetronix you can program one channel to have an effect and the other one not to. But more recently this has become a bigger deal, because I've become addicted to the tremolo and reverb on the clean tones for my AC15. Plus, they still sound good when I kick in my Fuzzface. Although if I had my preference I'd much rather have the tremolo and reverb on when I'm playing clean and then turn them off when I kick in my Fuzzface. So my first thought was ok I'll just get the footswitch, but then I saw that it was a dual switch one switch for tremolo and one for reverb; that would mean I'd have to press 3 switches every time I switch between clean and dirty tones. That would be a major pain in the butt (I hate pedal dancing 😠 ). So, after a little bit of digging I found this company called Loop-Master who makes all this crazy, off the wall fx loop pedal switchers and stuff (for example they make a pedal switcher with 15 fx loops!). They make a single loop channel switcher that looked like it'd probably do the job for $80, but I wasn't certain so I sent the guy an email. He sent me an email back saying that due to the way that Vox designed the footswitch for the AC15 it wouldn't work, however he also said he could mod the design to work the way I wanted it to for only $20 extra. So for $100 he can make me a pedal that with one stomp will switch between having my amp's tremolo and reverb on and my Fuzzface off or having my amp's tremolo and reverb off and having my Fuzzface on. This eliminates the one beef I have with my AC15. So I'm totally psyched about it; it'll definitely be worth not building the guitar though. I'll be placing the order in probably a couple of weeks. The end result will like kinda like this with a bigger housing and two of the little polarity switches on the side:
