The point of fanned frets is for improved and more accurate intonation and tuning, supposedly it doesn't affect playability at all.
I'd suggest, while we're on a forum based around Jaguars and Jazzmasters (among others), why not do some experimenting with the possibilities of the 3rd bridge? Say construct something that has a pickup back there a la Lee Ronaldo, maybe mess about with angling, pickup voicing, maybe even try to create a separate tuning system of some sort for behind the bridge? Say for example if there were strategically placed contacts that meet the strings between the bridge and the tailpiece, with enough space given one side or the other of the contact to actually let the string vibrate enough to give effect... if that makes sense?
