jimmydasaint said: yep. top-mounting, top-loader, that's what I meant: strung through bridge rather than through guitar.
I have been looking at that same bridge for my project:
Is it easy to string? Looks like it could be a bit fiddly to get strings through holes and under, up and onto saddle?
Do the intonation screws ever hamper the strings themselves?
What kinda quality is it?
Cheers, dude.
I will try to answer as best I can... 😀
Is it easy to string? - I don't know. It's only ever been strung once, and that was by a luthier. But given the basic setup is the same as my Tele, I would say no, not easy to string at all. Really fiddly. You have to bend the top 1 inch of each string at about 30 degrees and then try to feed it through the holes and over the saddles. It's a minor ordeal.
Do the intonation screws ever hamper the strings themselves? - No. There is about 3mm of clearance between the tip of the screw and the point where string and saddle meet. No worries there.
What kinda quality is it? - It seems fine to me, but not really qualified to judge. It stays in tune, the strings don't break, and the guitar in general is VERY harmonically active, which I am sure the bridge contributes to.
On many of the modded 51's I have seen the bridge seems to stick around, so I guess it must be ok.
