I asked him about Japanese Jaguar because he is a quite important professional musician, just to know what was his opinion and he said:

"obviously a Jaguar in good condition is a really precious instrument and the price should be higher than 1000-1200$. but the important is the conditions of the guitar. in USA they don't produce them anymore, sometimes they made a vintage serie. the ones produced in Mexico or Japan has nothing to do with American ones, they are really really different, no way that they are similar.

don't buy an American instrument in Japan `cause they don't make the Fender instruments the same way. second hand is always second hand. and also, you should try that guitar before buying it. it's very risky to buy a second hand instrument without trying it. it's risky for a brand new one, so you can imagine for a second hand one. be carefull."

what do you think? he exagerate or he's right?

I think he's right. I've heard the same stories fom somebody else.

And he's definitely right about always trying a second hand before you buy it, cus i've got ripped off multiple times by not trying a guitar and just have them shipped to me.

Stupid mistakes.............

I just saw an ebay seller that has ALL positive feedback and he has this music shop so I was tempted to just trust him and buy.

What a load of rubbish.

I've bought hundreds of guitars by pictures only. Never ripped off once. Just make sure the pictures are clean, complete and you know what to look for and get a picture of it.

Other than that.....what can possibly go wrong? Guitars are not rocket science.....if you get one and the setup sucks....break out the tools and get wrenching. It's really quite easy to fine tune them.

I think you'd be foolish to buy a brand new guitar, most of the time. Why pay for the depreciation yourself? There's a long gap between when a guitar is "used" and "vintage" so why pay for the depreciation on a new guitar? Make your money stretch further and work for you.

Yeah, but what if electronica doesn't work???????? You can't see that on a normal guitar picture, cus not everyone posts pictures with their guitar open.

Surely they'll tell you if there is a electronic problem or dead pickup.

I do remember somebody selling a guitar with a dead neck pickup that they cleverly wired a hi-cut filter into the neck position to give a more neck pickupy sound.

Then you don't know Holland..........

I've heard stories from a guitar builder who says that a lot of people told him they've got ripped off because off dead pups etc.

I'am not saying it happens very often, but it does happen sometimes....... 🙄

It's a bit of a running joke from a few months ago.

There's a guy on ebay called schmitt-music or something like that, selling vintage guitar parts for obscene prices. The most extreme example was an old strat pickguard for which he was asking USD $6,000.

There are threads here somewhere, but I don't remeber what they would be called.

The guy became a bit of a celebrity for a while, we had users emailing him and everything 😀
