I searched other posts, but couldn't find anything about what kind of finish was used on the '69 repro guitars - this is a "crafted in Japan" version if it makes any difference.
My guitar teacher has suggested we shave/carve down the forearm contour on my Mustang, and instead of leaving bare wood, my husband wants to refinish it. He thinks the original finish is probably lacqure, but I told him I'd try and find out here.
He may end up sanding the entire body down to the wood and doing some kind of custom paint, but he wants to see what he can find out before he starts working on it. Apparently, finish type matters in the process. He is a trained woodworker, so I know he won't ruin my guitar;
but if he does, he'll be buying me another one!
I have to admit, the whole idea is kind of freaking me out. Custom paint might be cool - but the whole mod thing...I don't know. I may just tell him to forget the whole thing, or go mess with one of his own guitars... 🙄
